We welcome you on board Department of Civil Aviation Website. Wish you a pleasant take-off and safe maneuvers all the way through. As a regulatory body of the aviation industry in Botswana we aim to build an excellent partnership with our stakeholders in order to have a safe, regular, economic and efficient air transportation that can stand the challenges on our time.

Like other Contracting States of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Botswana has to focus on the political, economic and social needs of her people and recognize the vital role that the aviation industry can play. That calls for various initiatives like universal safety oversight audit programme (USOAP), safety management system (SMS), Human Factors in Aviation and aviation security in the light of highly sophisticated means and devices employed by international terrorists to threaten the aviation industry today. The main thrust here being to aim for reduced air accidents and incidents as well as cases of unlawful interference with civil aviation.

One way of responding to these challenges has been to transform into the civil aviation authority. The process for this transformation is at advanced stage and we strongly believe that such a transformation will bear fruits from which all stakeholders would benefit in terms of customer service and efficiency, motivated professional staff and compliance with ICAO SARPs. Such efficiency should have positive impact on the tourism industry, which is deemed as Botswana’s future engine of growth because diamonds are certainly not for ever. With the civil aviation authority in the horizon, we see an exponential increase of business opportunities in the country and we are convinced that now is the right time for any forward-looking business entities to position themselves in Botswana.

It is a fact that the line between aviation and tourism is very thin or put differently, aviation and tourism are naturally intertwined. It is for this reason that we see the aviation industry having an enormous challenge of linking the world tourists with the unspoiled nature that Botswana prides of. Indeed, Botswana offers tourist attractions second to none and is always referred to as the “Last Paradise of Africa,” teeming with game running so wild and free in the wilderness. This peace-loving country, little known to the outside world, has a lot to offer to a visitor on business or pleasure and this includes the strong and rich culture characterized, among others, by its famous traditional dance and music.

Having a rather small population, Botswana offers a congestion-free air and cheap aircraft parking and this will remain like that for some years to come. Finally, Botswana will continue to take her rightful position and make positive contribution in the affairs of SADC and ICAO for the good of the humankind.  PULA!
